2-3-21: 5am

So, it's 5 a.m. I think I sort of slept a little. It seems yesterday my caffeine intake was a bit high. This is one of the downsides of having a Nespresso machine within 10 meters of my desk at home. I think I had four shots in the morning, a couple of cans of Coke Zero (which I am trying to avoid having) plus an Americano in the afternoon. Anyway, it's 5 a.m. and luckily I have a Nespresso machine handy to make a coffee with.

If my body was more willingly, I would actually like to wake up this early more often. When I have experimented with early starts the first couple of hours in the day can turn out very productive. With no distractions, and a few hours to yourself you can spend time, with a clear mind, on the things important to you. It is a great time to meditate, read a book or get ahead on writing your blog post for the day.

Unfortunately, by default, I am a night owl (always have been) so my early morning forays have never become a regular feature. As I am trying to re-integrate some of the good habits I discovered though I am going to have another run at some early morning starts. Nights are great though. They are also quiet.

Perhaps I need to not try for 5 a.m. every day and set a goal of two early morning me-times a week. I did read you should try and keep the time you wake up regular, however, so I am not sure if 2 x 5 a.m. and 3 x 7.30 a.m. and 2 x as late as I can in the weekend will be a good thing or not. This stuff is so hard. Attempting one person's good habit and life-changing advice typically goes against something else you read.

This is the first 5 a.m. out-of-bed experiment of 2021. It was unintentional. But I plan on making the most of it.

Today's lesson - you do not need a . at the end of a sentence with 5 a.m. (which is also acceptable to write as 5am, 5 am 5AM, 5 AM but not 5a.m.).
