It's Day #7 here already in our second go-round of MIQ. I've been a bit lax on the daily blogging mainly as Anki and I have been passing out somewhere between 8 pm and 9 pm most nights and waking up between 3 am and 5 am. The days have settled in a pretty fixed routine of waking up, walking around the room (or outside) and then doing a lot of research about somewhere to live, cars and various other things we need to get sorted as soon as we get released.
I would say the novelty has worn off much faster than last time. By the third day, I had enough of it, to be honest. It isn't that hard in here, nice big room, passable food and plenty of shows to watch but last time it was a bit more interesting for longer. It is just incredibly boring so the motivation to do anything but blob and watch tv is pretty hard but we are trying!
We are experimenting a little with some live streams so that at least is something new. Today we have the camera on and the live stream running all day with some music. It is as much so we have a memory of what I hope will be the last time we have to do this as it is for fame and glory.
We are lining up at some point today for our third PCR test. This time around everyone gets four. The first two were negative so we are pretty sure we won't have a transfer followed by an extended stay in the Q part of "MIQ". At the moment the PCR test uncomfortable factor on is "average". One very nice "did you actually do it yet" test on day 1 was followed by "yes, my brain is there but you know that know" test on day 3. Let's see which way the needle moves today. You can't really pick and choose who does it as you go who is free but we do know who we would like if we got the choice. At least the light is firmly at the end of the tunnel in terms of all the tests we had to do since our trip started in August. We are 6/8 down and it will be 7/8 after today's one.
The food continues to be decent but as we enter week two we will be on repeats. The menu is the same each week it seems. I'll put a gallery below of some of the stuff. We had some supplies dropped off by a friend who lives local (thanks Julie!) and some nice treats were included with the much need pair of tracksuit pants. I didn't seem to think I would need any but the temperature is just a bit below what is comfortable outside walking in shorts after nine years living above 20 degrees all year round. I did resort to walking up and down the room but that loses its uniqueness very very fast. Walking in circles in a car park with a mask on is not a lot better but it's a 2/5 experience vs the 1/5 in room one.
From looking at the pictures below the lamb, fish and chips and lasagne were all pretty good. The chicken ones are a bit of a mission to work through though. We left some space next week for a couple of deliveries on those days. Breakfast is always ok. Reminds me a lot of what you would get if you stopped at the services in the UK. The day with a couple of boiled eggs and a hash brown was a bit rough though.
Part of my excitement about getting Rotorua was that I might be able to see the kids across the fence. For various reasons I don't really feel like going into this won't happen it seems. I would have loved to have seen them but it's not long now till the visits are going to regular, often and a part of normal life. Some things in life you can control and others you can't. I am really hanging out though to see my children. It has been basically a year since I have seen them and this has been extremely difficult for me. Not long now though!
That's all for today. Seven days to go. I will probably get another blog or two out while we are in here but it's really just groundhog day each day so not so much to write about. Even the food photos are going to be the same from now! I might write some crazy post if I get really bored but I have my drawing stuff to resort to if that happens and I am long overdue to do some drawings. Have a great day wherever you are in the world.
